Although overalls have been utility clothing for years, they’ve cycled through fashion hot lists and not lists more than once. But these aren’t the baggy, farmer-in-the-dell pants of the ’90s. The denim is now reimagined as skinnier, more distressed and strappier. Check out these picks for the women’s overalls comeback.

5 Tips for Dressing Well While Losing Weight

If you’ve ever tried to lose a substantial amount of weight, you know how challenging it can be to find clothes that look good during your transition from overweight to fit. I’m currently in the middle of a major weight-loss journey myself, so I wanted to share some tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. And, when you’re buying weight-loss clothes, why not use Ebates to get Cash Back while shopping for all the best products?

Stick With Solid Shirts

Stripes rarely look good on heftier people, so stay with shirts in solid, dark tones. Black, navy and gray all have a slimming effect. I suggest adhering to minimalist wardrobe standards and buying several to get you through the workweek. That’s all you really need. As you continue to lose weight, swap each one out for a smaller size.

Pay Attention to the Fit

You also need to watch out for the fit. Manufacturers seem to think all big guys are blocky, so you can find yourself swimming in material. This is especially true for shirts. Stay away from anything labeled “traditional cut” or “classic cut.” Believe it or not, slim fit may actually look great on you, so give it a chance.

Take a Chance on Tapered Pants

Much like the oversize dress shirts mentioned above, retailers get a little crazy on pant sizes. Just because we have bigger waists doesn’t mean our legs are tree trunks. Look for pants that taper all the way to the ankle. This type of cut creates a slimming effect and will ensure it doesn’t look like you’re swimming in your slacks. Another tip: Adjustable waists are your friend. Look for pants that stretch, and buy the smallest size you can. They’ll be tight at first, but they’ll start to feel better as you continue to lose weight.

Buy Yourself a Micro-Adjustable Belt

When I discovered this style of belt, I never looked back. It has a track sewn into it instead of holes, and the buckle has a lever on it that locks into the track. The track’s ridges are what keep the belt buckle locked in, and they are all packed pretty close together. This allows you to make micro adjustments throughout the day. You cut the belt to fit your waist, attach the buckle — which is interchangeable — and ratchet it down. Now you don’t have to worry about keeping your pants up when you’re in between sizes.

Invest in Shoes

Your feet are just about the only parts of your body unaffected by weight loss (unless you’ve lost a few hundred pounds). Because of this fact, you don’t have to worry about investing a lot of money in something you’ll need to replace in a few short months. I personally love these shoes from New Balance, and I recently splurged on a pair after hitting another weight-loss goal.

7 Minimalist Essentials for a Clutter-Free Wardrobe

Sick of closet clutter? It’s time to go minimalist with your wardrobe. I decided to cut down on the amount of clothes I own a few years ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Here, I’ve rounded up some examples of my favorite minimalist wardrobe essentials — the real staples of my wardrobe. Buy them for yourself or pick out similar options that suit your taste. Either way, if you use Ebates to define your minimalist style, you’ll get Cash Back while shopping for all the best products.

Basic Undershirts

Don’t waste your money on a five-pack of bargain-bin crew necks. Spend a little more on five to seven decent undershirts and they’ll last you a lot longer. Plus, they won’t make you feel like you’re wearing a shirt made of sandpaper like the cheapos will. You need at least three in white, and I like to have a few in different shades of gray to round out my collection. These shirts from Kohl’s are my current favorite — super soft and very affordable.

Timeless Button-Downs

The key to buying button-down shirts is to stick with the classics. Funky prints come and go, but solids, checks and gingham have been (and will be) around for the long haul. Twillory makes some outstanding shirts and the fit is just right. I suggest buying five shirts to start off. Stick to solid blue or gray for at least three shirts, and use your last two picks on patterns and nontraditional colors like purple or green.

Black Cap-Toe Shoes

If I had to pick one pair of dress shoes to wear indefinitely, I’d choose black cap-toes — particularly this pair from Cole Haan. Subtle and refined, the cap-toe shoe is a minimalist style staple. You want to pay more up front for a quality pair of shoes because you’ll be rotating between only these and your brown pair during the workweek. Because they are understated, they’ll pair well with just about anything in your closet.

Brown Wing-Tip Shoes

Your black cap-toe shoes will be pretty basic, so if you’re feeling the need for a little flash, you’re in luck. Meet the wing tip — your second go-to pair of minimalist shoes. The brogue detailing on the leather offers a little pop of style and will get you plenty of compliments anywhere you wear them. You don’t have to be a boring minimalist, right?

DIY Custom-Fit Jeans

When I explain Levi’s 501 Shrink-to-Fit jeans to someone, I get some weird looks. In order to get the perfect fit, you need to soak them in your bathtub for a half hour or so, pat them down with a towel to get most of the water out and then wear them around the house until they’re dry. Sounds crazy, right? It may be, but you’ll think it’s less insane when you’re strutting around in jeans that fit you like a glove. You only need one or two pairs of jeans in your minimalist wardrobe, so make them count. I have a pair of these in gray and a pair of classic 501s in black, but you could easily make do with a single pair of 501s.

Carefully Selected Chinos

Skip the classic slacks and pick up chinos in a variety of dark or neutral tones. You should have a pair for every day of the workweek to round out your minimalist wardrobe, and you can wear them on the weekends as well since chinos look great both in and out of the office. This navy pair is a great start. Pick up two pairs in black, one pair in gray and one pair in khaki to complete your collection.

Two Versatile Belts

I was introduced to lever belts a few years ago, and I haven’t bought a traditional belt since. Lever belts don’t have holes and they let you make micro adjustments to the fit. For someone like me who is always between sizes, it’s a welcome change not to have to choose between too tight or too loose. They’re a minimalist wardrobe essential because you only need black and brown belts and two buckles. You cut the belts to size and clip the buckle onto the end, so you’re able to mix and match between different colors whenever you want.

What to Wear When the Rain Won’t Go Away

You never know what you’re going to get when spring rolls around — glowing sunshine one day, frigid temps the next; birds chirping, followed by snow falling. It’s unpredictable at best and totally erratic at worst. Hold on to your raincoat, ladies — better weather is coming (promise!). But first, a few downpours. Make the most of the wet-and-wild forecast and stay stylish (and dry) with functional and fashionable foul-weather gear. And don’t worry — you’ll be breaking out your flirty frocks and fave espadrilles in no time. Because if March and April showers bring May flowers, then you can expect a gorgeously vibrant season to come.

A trench is a spring closet staple, so you might as well get one that will keep you looking classically stylish and staying comfortably dry.

Meet the 5 Perfect Carry-On Bags

For me, the perfect carry-on bag has to be compact, versatile and stylish. It needs to be roomy enough to hold all of my essentials but small enough to actually fit in the overhead compartment, especially since space comes at a premium on flights these days. Below, you’ll find five perfect bags for any type of traveler. Whether you like to pack sparingly or need something that’ll hold a hefty portion of your wardrobe, there’s an option for you. And, when you shop for any of them through Ebates, you’ll be earning Cash Back.

The Take-Anywhere Tote

If you like to travel light, the Tumi Voyageur M-Tote is the carry-on bag for you. Roomy and stylish, this tote has a 13″ laptop pocket, one zip pocket and three open pockets for storing chargers, headphones and other accessories. If you learn how to roll your clothes, you can fit at least two outfits in this carry-on, which makes it ideal for quick business trips or a compact way to carry your essentials.

The Do-It-All Duffel

The bag I reach for the most, for any sort of travel plans, is my Chrome Industries Surveyor duffel bag. I have the predecessor to this model, and it’s a tank. I’ve taken it on dozens of flights, weekend trips and camping adventures. I even used it as a cooler for oysters and beer once when I lived in the Bay Area. Chrome has made some nice upgrades with the addition of a strap and interior organization. There’s even an added shoe compartment. It’s crafted from ballistic nylon, which is incredibly tough, so it can handle being squished into an overhead bin with ease. After years of abuse, my bag still looks brand-new.

The Weekend Workhorse

A weekender bag is a must-have in your carry-on luggage arsenal. This one from Vera Bradley has a classic profile and plenty of room for all of your staples. Vera Bradley says it can hold anywhere from four to six outfits. It can also double as your go-to bag when you’re not flying, which makes it a fantastic investment. I particularly like the navy colorway, but there are four additional colors to choose from if navy’s not your thing.

The Compact Compartment

How many times have you boarded a plane only to find that the overhead storage is completely full? It happens to me all the time, which is why I often reach for something like this under-seat bag. Sure, it’s not as roomy as other carry-on luggage, but it’ll get the job done if you pack smart like I mentioned earlier. If you find that the overhead compartments are full, simply slip this bag under your seat, sit back, relax and enjoy your flight.

The Certified Classic

There’s something to be said for a classic, and this spinner suitcase from Samsonite is a modern take on a tried and true design. It’s expandable, so you’ll be able to fit much more in this bag than you would the other picks above, but it still complies with carry-on luggage rules, so you’ll be all clear when you board. Simple, sleek and stylish. What more could you ask for?
