Insta-Worthy Autumn Activities Your Family and Followers Will Love

The peak of fall is as picturesque as it gets. Colorful foliage, decorative gourds and festive settings prime for photo-snapping — that’s what the season is all about. Indeed, the fall landscape makes an idyllic backdrop for your oh-so-inspirational Instagram feed. Of course, iconic autumnal activities are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also super fun. So make the most of it and enjoy the crisp air, crunchy leaves and a few awesome outings with your family and friends. Just make sure to stop and stage a perfect pic while you’re at it. Because if you didn’t ’gram it, did it really happen?

Go Apple Picking

Apples are prime for picking in late September and early October, so get to your favorite farm and pluck plenty of Pink Ladies, Honeycrisps and Fujis (my three faves!) from big, tall trees. Be sure to wear your fall best (booties optional!) and snag yourself the ultimate “fashionista-at-the farm” social-media shot. You can also ’gram a photo of that must-eat apple donut with your own thermos of hot cider — you know, before you devour it all. Or go the family-friendly route and get a pic of all the apples of your eye together. Seriously, though — it’s one of the best activities for kids.

Hit Up the Pumpkin Patch

The annual trip to the pumpkin patch is one of my favorite fall activities. I love watching my kids wander up and down the dirt lanes, seriously scrutinizing the color, size and roundness of each pumpkin they pass. One tip: BYO red wagon! It’s great for carting the kids around when their little legs get tired. Plus, you can haul your pumpkin pile to the car without breaking your back. Bonus: You might even get an amazing Instagram shot of the kiddos cruising in their retro-inspired Radio Flyer surrounded by gourds.

Tailgating Time

Whether you’re a football fanatic or just in it for the food, there’s nothing quite like a good parking-lot tailgating party. Bring your own portable charcoal barbecue and you’ll be the game-day MVP. Bonus points if you pack graham crackers, chocolate bars, marshmallows and this s’mores-making basket. Enjoy your ooey-gooey treat while showing off your NFL pride — now that’s a Kodak moment. Winning moments and cool Instagram photo ideas — that’s what we’re all about.

Take a Hike

There’s no better time than fall to take a nature walk or hit the hiking trail. Autumn’s natural beauty abounds with endless blue sky and a cascading rainbow of leaves. If that’s not workout motivation, I don’t know what is. Make sure all your followers see you getting exercise in wide-open spaces — and looking good in the process — in a new pair of Adidas Terrex hiking shoes. These sneakers are as functional as they are fashionable.

Fire It Up for the Fourth: Everything You Need for a Perfect Grill Day

Grilling truly is an artform. And, like any artist, you’re going to need some tools to get the job done. While everyone else is focused on the festivities, you’ll be crafting a masterpiece of a meal. Use these tools and tips to deliver a Fourth of July meal to remember. They’ll help you stay in the game and save a little dough by earning Cash Back at Ebates while shopping for all the best products.

Get the Party Started

If you have a charcoal grill and have never used a charcoal chimney, it’ll change everything you know about grilling. The simple and time-tested design creates airflow around the briquettes to help them get up to temperature. The best part? You can leave the lighter fluid on the shelf. All you need is an old newspaper to get things going. No more lighter-fluid-flavored food for you.

Bring On the Meats

If you’re going to go through the trouble of prepping your backyard for a grill day, you’d better have the right ingredients. Few things are more important than your meat selection. Sure, you could go fight in line at the local butcher with everyone else, or you could do all your shopping with a single click. Omaha Steaks is a trusted choice by many a grill-master thanks to its reputation for quality cuts. Take your pick from the many packages or build your own menu. I’d go for the premier selection.

Give Yourself Some Breathing Room

You have the fancy four-burner grill with all the bells and whistles, but there comes a time in every grill-master’s career when he or she just needs a little more room to practice the craft. A crowded grill isn’t the end of the world, but it’ll take a lot longer to cook your food and you’ll have hangry party guests to attend to. Say hello to the Blackstone griddle cooking station, a versatile cooktop built for odds and ends like veggies, rice and anything else you can grill up.Blackstone 28-inch Griddle Cooking Station

Deal With Difficult Delectables

When I graduated from tinfoil to a grill basket like this one from Broil King, I never looked back. This simple tool is perfect for anything that might fall through the grates while you flip, pick at and prod the contents of your grill. It’s especially good for chopped onions, peppers and mushrooms.

Chill Out, Man

When you’re tending to the smoky throne, the last thing you want to do is go for an ice run. Spoiler alert: Neither do your guests. Make it easy on everyone and invest in a Yeti Tundra. This tank of a cooler will last you the rest of your life, and it keeps ice cold and intact for days.

Put Away the Knife and Pick Up a Thermometer

You’re going to work hard on this feast, so don’t blow it by slicing into the meat to check the temperature or taking it off the grill too soon. Upgrade to a digital thermometer with a sensor probe. The key is keeping the juices inside the meat where they belong, and this gadget will help you do just that because it’s fairly non-invasive. Plus, it’s wireless, so you can get a readout up to 300 feet away—perfect for that detour to the cooler or a trip inside to prep the rest of your meal.

5 Gifts New Dads Would Never Buy for Themselves But Totally Need

Do you have a friend who just ventured into the life-altering journey otherwise known as fatherhood? He’s probably received plenty of gifts from friends and family — all of which are for the baby, of course — but new dads need some love too. If you want to get him something memorable, skip the diapers and wipes and get him something unexpected. Something he’d never buy for himself, especially since he’s saving up for that first month of daycare. You’ll be helping yourself, too, by earning Cash Back at Ebates while shopping for all the best products.

Help Him Keep Up Appearances

Most dads have to get back to work shortly after their little one is delivered. That means sleepless nights followed by eight-hour workdays. He may feel like a zombie, but he doesn’t have to look like one. Pick up this grooming kit from Kiehl’s to help in that department. By now, he’s had no time to shop — even for the essentials — so it’ll be a welcome change from digging for that travel-size bottle of shaving cream he swears is somewhere in the depths of the bathroom cabinet.

Give Him Back His Dignity

If a new dad is going to be hauling around all of the baby gear, he should at least be able to do it with something stylish, right? No man ever thought about buying himself a diaper bag before those two lines appeared on the pregnancy test. Help a dude out and give him something respectable like this rugged tote from Brooks Brothers. It has a large compartment and is built like a tank, so he can lug around the goods without having to cut up his man card.

Hand Him a Gift That Keeps on Giving

Yeti Cooler

His life may have changed forever, but it doesn’t mean it’s over — although it might feel like it right now. Babies are expensive, so it’s going to be a long time before he can indulge in something for himself. That’s where you come in. If you can swing it, a Yeti cooler is the ultimate gesture. It will be much appreciated, especially down the road when he’s taking the family on a road trip. If it’s out of your budget, a Yeti Rambler Lowball will do the trick. He can fill it with whatever takes the edge off on a particularly hard day.

Make Mealtime a Breeze

Remember what I said earlier about leaving the house? New parents have a lot to think about. Take mealtime out of the equation with Home Chef’s meal delivery service. He’ll still need to prepare everything, but the fact that there are directions to follow and everything is portioned out is enough to save his sanity.

Build a Survival Kit

Last but not least, if you really want to make your mark, build your friend a new dad survival kit. Walgreens has everything you need to make it happen. Here’s what I suggest:

  • A boatload of snacks like jerky, chips and a favorite candy.
  • Earplugs. Don’t skimp on these. Get the good stuff.
  • Emergen-C, so he can stay in the game.
  • Tylenol. The big bottle.
  • A six pack of his favorite brew or a bottle of his favorite spirit.
  • More snacks.
  • A gift card to a local restaurant, Amazon or even Netflix. You know your buddy best. Get something he and his partner can put to good use.

Must-Have Statement Pieces for International Women’s Day

Must-Have Statement Pieces for International Women’s Day 6

As we approach International Women’s Day, we’re seeing a clear trend toward wearing this year’s #BeBoldForChange message and attitude on one’s sleeve (or shirt). For some, it’s about making a powerful political statement, and for others, raising basic awareness. Either way, a strong case can be made for embodying the “you are what you wear” mentality. If you want to express yourself this International Women’s Day, here are a few pieces that will empower you to represent the issues you support in any setting.

Just because

Future Is Female International Women's Day Shirt

Nothing makes a statement quite like a T-shirt that, well, makes a statement. This “The Future Is Female” shirt from Etsy is as casual as it is powerful. The slogan, which has been revived only recently, was born in the radical women’s movement of the ’70s and was originally silk-screened as the slogan for New York City’s first women’s bookstore.

Feminist Bag Forever 21

Grab this “Feminist” tote bag from Forever21 when you’re on your way to the store and feel strong and proud the entire day. The term “feminism” dates back to the mid-1800s, when women in the U.S. were fighting for property rights, equal pay and access to higher education.

Say it with jewelry. Try these “This Is What a Feminist Looks Like” earrings from CafePress, which are small but mighty, conveying support and awareness among people of all backgrounds, ages and gender identities.

As a gift (or just for you)

The Feminine Mystique buy Betty Friedan

The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan is a foundational read that helped light a match under the second-wave feminist movement of the early 1960s. It was and is still lauded for its direct approach to a taboo topic of the time, and it continues to spark conversation about who should be included in feminist discourse.

The Best Flowers to Buy for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is on the horizon, which means love is in the air, along with the scent of rose petals. Every year, an estimated 224 million roses are grown for this day alone. The rose has been a symbol of love and virtue for thousands of years, dating all the way back to ancient Greece, where the red flower was associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. With roses being such a time-tested token of affection, it’s no wonder they make up more than 50 percent of the flowers given away on Valentine’s Day.

What is a little more confusing is why anyone would act surprised when they get a bouquet of roses. Giving your sweetheart roses may be a nice gesture, but it’s not exactly a clever or creative one. Do you really want your significant other to open her door on Valentine’s Day to discover a bouquet that looks identical to the ones all her friends and coworkers are getting? Or do you want to give her flowers that are just as special and unique as she is?

Best Valentine's Flowers

Want to share our infographic on your site? Just copy and paste the text below!

For  instance, maybe you’re in the early stages of a relationship. You may not be ready for the bold declaration of love that comes with roses. You want a flower that’s just as pretty and fragrant but not quite so heavy on commitment. The French tulip is ideal for this situation. Its pastel pink and yellow petals bring to mind the first days of spring, which is perhaps why it has come to symbolize new beginnings and fresh starts. A dozen of these may not scream, “I’m ready to spend the rest of my life with you,” but they will let your new lover know you’re excited to see what the future holds for the two of you. French tulips are also perfect for people in older relationships that could use a little sprinkle of young love. They let your longtime companion know that just because you’ve been together for a long time doesn’t mean you don’t have some new adventures in store.

New adventures, however, can be costly. We may all dream of Valentine’s Day getaways with our romantic partners, but we may not all have the money to whisk them to some sunny beach on the other side of the world. Luckily, some flowers can bring a little touch of the tropics to a snowy morning in mid-February. Orchids, which hail from tropical climates like Hawaii and Australia, bloom in dozens of dazzling colors and deliver the sights and scents of an island getaway right to your own home.

Or, if you and your loved one are simply pining for warmer summer months, why not pick up a vase full of sunflowers? Sunflowers represent the sun itself, and they can make any Valentine’s Day feel brighter — even when it’s still getting dark at 5 p.m.

Love is celebrated in many different forms on Valentine’s Day (and romance isn’t the only thing on people’s minds), so naturally there are flowers that represent many different forms of love. Maybe there’s a mother in your life who you think deserves a little bit of attention on the big day. The pink, pillowy petals of the carnation are said to match the color and texture of newborn flesh. Giving them to your mom would let her know how much you appreciate all the love and care she gave you over the years. If there’s a new mother in your life, carnations can let her know how much you look forward to raising a child together.

On the other hand, if you’re only in the planning stages of parenthood, you could always pick up a bouquet of lilies for your special someone. Lilies represent passion and fertility. A dozen of them will let your boyfriend or girlfriend know exactly how you hope this Valentine’s Day will end.

Of course, some loves are just better left unspoken. Gardenias are simple, elegant flowers that represent a secret love. If you’re in a relationship with someone but you’re currently keeping it on the down-low, why not send him or her a couple of these beautiful blossoms? (No note attached, of course.) The stark white petals look like blank pages, ready for a secret romance story to be written on.

Career-minded couples need a little bit of romance as well. If you and your loved one feel more married to your jobs than to each other, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to slow down, take stock and remind each other how you really feel. A purple iris signifies royalty, and certain stems can cost as much as $100 a pop. But when you’re working 60 hours a week, it can feel nice to be treated like a king or queen every once in awhile. Or if your significant other is so busy he or she doesn’t even have time to water the plants already in the house, they might appreciate a succulent. These spiny, cactus-like plants are pretty and can live for months with just a little bit of water.

Of course, sometimes people might just be expecting roses. If that’s the case, you really should go for tradition, but there’s no reason you can’t put a slightly personal spin on the old classic. There are tons of different types of roses that each have a unique charm. Our favorite is the Black Baccara Hybrid Tea Rose. The darker red of this rose variation will stand out from all the rose bouquets delivered that day. The richer, deeper colors scream with sultry passion, and they’ll let your sweetheart know just how deep your love is.

Whether you settle for roses or something more unusual, the most important thing is that you remember Valentine’s Day in the first place. Feb. 14 actually has a pretty high breakup rate. A few flowers could help remind you and your significant other why you fell in love in the first place and keep you there for a long time to come.

How to Have a Non-Valentiney Valentine’s Day

How to Have a None-Valentiney Valentine's Day

It was barely Dec. 26, and all the stores put out their frilly pink and lacey red Valentine’s Day displays. But you’re not the frilly pink and lacey red type.

That’s OK. You can still celebrate the day in your own dark and cloudy way, and earn Cash Back at Ebates while you’re at it. Single or coupled up, here’s how those counting down the minutes until Feb. 15 (that’s when the chocolate goes on sale!) can have a non-Valentiney Valentine’s Day.

[ebatesads id=”in-post”]

Dress up in all black.

But don’t throw on a plain ol’ T-shirt and call it a day. While everyone around you is splurging on designer red outfits, get yourself something fancy. Maybe something cashmere.

Skip the sweet rom-coms and go for something with a little more … oomph.

Ditch the boy-meets-girl fare and choose a movie in which the narrative goes a little more like this: Boy meets girl. Boy loses girl … because girl thinks boy is a serial killer. “Scream” isn’t just for Halloween, but if you’re looking to stay on theme, the remake of “My Bloody Valentine is buckets of gory fun.

Work out!

No, really. Put your efforts into hitting a new exercise milestone. Hit the gym or work out at home. Or, you know, raise your remote several times to change the channel. It has to burn some calories.

Get crafty.

Embrace your creative side and spend the night involved in a craft project. But knitting a hat just won’t do for the black-clad, horror-movie-watching folks on Valentine’s Day — so make your own little zombie pal instead. Then sit back and admire your buddy.

Savor some delicious wine.

OK, drinking wine may be a traditional Valentine’s Day thing to do. But wine is also delicious. So kick back with a glass of wine — but not just any wine. Pick something that’s extra dark — just like you.

10 Tips for a Killer New Year’s Eve Party

10 Tips for a Killer New Year's Eve Party

A wise girl once said, “The way you spend New Year’s Eve is the way you’re going to spend the rest of the year.” That girl was Summer Roberts from “The O.C.,” and the quote was uttered just hours before Ryan dramatically ran up multiple flights of stairs (in slow motion, naturally) to get to Marissa before midnight. Every Millennial remembers this dreamy episode, and every millennial wishes to have a rom-com-inspired proclamation of love like that on New Year’s Eve. Yes, you do. Don’t lie.

But, since we live IRL, we’ll probably have to settle for the next best thing—throwing a fabulous New Year’s Eve party. Invite all your friends, skip the overpriced party tickets and avoid Uber’s surge pricing. Sounds easy enough, right? Not quite.

There’s a lot of pressure on this bash. Like Summer said, it’ll set the tone for the year ahead, so you have to be ready to make it unforgettable. Here, 10 party tips that will ensure one heck of a memorable New Year’s Eve bash. Shop through Ebates to earn Cash Back on all your decor, favors and party essentials.

1. Have a theme.

This isn’t any old Saturday night get-together. Differentiate it from the other parties you throw by having a set theme. Go the elaborate route and take a cue from Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball and have everyone wear a masquerade mask. Or go the low-key (and super comfortable) route and ask guests to wear their favorite onesies.

2. Look the part.

If it’s not a onesie party, you’ll want to make sure you, the hostess, are wearing a fabulous outfit. Steer clear of the norm (like sequins and gold) to ensure you stand out. Go for a slightly sparkly dress in a fashion-forward silhouette, like this stunning Tory Burch number.

3. Prep your pout.

It may be cold out and the air may be dry, but that’s no excuse to have dry lips. Prep them before your New Year’s Eve kiss by applying lip conditioner so your pout will be perfectly kissable by the time the ball drops.

Trio Levres Caudalie Lip Conditioner

4. Make a special cocktail.

Have a signature drink to make the night a little more special. Try winter sangria or a champagne cocktail. Anything with bubbles will work perfectly.

5. Set the mood.

Light a scented candle to create a warm atmosphere, and have a selection of your favorite records on hand—or a few top Spotify playlists ready to go.

6. Don’t forget the essentials.

Have plenty of ice, alcohol and salty, hearty and sweet snacks.

7. Decorate.

Scratch the overhead lighting and opt for candles and fairy lights instead. Grab some party hats, and, while you’re at it, get some noisemakers. Drunk people love them!

8. Plan the after party.

Cabs are going to be as hard to get as a good Tinder date, so plan for your guests to stay extra late to avoid the rush. Have plenty of food and games that’ll last until the wee hours of the morning.

9. Don’t get caught up in trying to make it perfect.

The more you relax and go with the flow, the more likely your guests will enjoy themselves. If Stacy’s boyfriend gets super drunk and annoys everyone again, just laugh it off. If Mike keeps spilling stuff, steer him to a room without so many hard-to-clean textiles. And if Alice won’t shut up about her fabulous job, fabulous fiancé and fabulous house, stick her in a corner with Stacy’s boyfriend and Mike.

10. Include an element of surprise.

Someone once said a surefire way to ensure guests have a great time is to include an element of surprise. Whether you go all out with a fun entertainer, make a crowd-pleasing dish or hand out hangover care packages post-fete, your guests will love the unexpected touch.
