Mother’s Day Gift Guide Under $25

mothersdayggunder25

Mother’s Day will be here before you know it and while many moms out there love flowers, why not try something a little different this year? If you’re looking to keep things simple this Mother’s Day but want to still give her something small that says a lot, we’ve got the perfect gift guide for you. Items that will help her relax, pamper herself or help preserve memories will make this Mother’s Day extra special.

1. Prada Candy Florale Rollerball (Sephora) | $25
Research your mom’s favorite perfume scent (or introduce her to something new) and give her a rollerball version of it. These are great for travel or a busy mom on the go.

2. Posy Court Small Heart Dish (Kate Spade) | $20
Losing an earring or the keys can happen daily in a mother’s life. This heart shaped dish is a great solution for commonly misplaced small objects. And it’s so darn cute!

3. Eucalyptus Spearmint Body Wash & Foam Bath (Bath & Body Works) | $13
Setting aside some “me time” can be hard to schedule in. This body wash will remind her to take at least five minutes for herself daily.

4. Kate Spade ‘Asteroid Stones’ Stud Earrings (Overstock) | $22.99
Jewelry tends to be a typical Mother’s Day gift, but when it’s something she can wear daily (like these earrings) she’ll remember you every time she puts them on.

5. Pacifica Soy Candle in Malibu Lemon Blossom (Beauty.com) | $16
Soy candles are a great alternative to traditional candles as they burn clean and longer. The Malibu Lemon Blossom scent captures the Pacific Ocean perfectly, allowing her to escape for a few moments during the day.

6. Formula X The Match CLIX (Sephora) | $16
These fun nail polishes take the guessing out of which shades will flatter the skin tone. The best part of giving her this gift is you can offer to spend time giving her a manicure.

7. Mom’s Five-second Memory Journal (Walmart) | $6
This gift is perfect for the mom with only five seconds to spare. Full of fun prompts for her to jot down thoughts on life, after time it’ll be a great keepsake for her to look back on.

2. Bold Blue Accents

A blue accent wall is not for the faint of heart but it creates a beautiful focal point for any room. Blue furniture and fixtures also create this effect in a bite-sized serving.

However, if you want to try something a little more temporary, this lovely blue bedroom lamp is a nice baby step. Pair it with some blue accent pillows or a blue throw rug!

3. Neutral Accents

We all know the safest rule in home decor is to paint in neutrals and mix things up with colorful accents. But why not live dangerously? Paint with colors that make you giddy and keep the look grounded with creamy or nude furniture.

4. Monochrome Texture

If color isn’t your thing and you love a clean, calm gray palette, you can keep the look lively with inspired with a mix of textures. Grasscloth wallpaper is particularly popular this year to give your walls a little pop.

5. Menswear Inspired

Plaids, pinstripes, houndstooth. Little pops of these menswear prints can give any room in your house a nice little kick, especially when juxtaposing modern and classic styles. For instance, the retro vibe of a plaid chair and the contemporary geometric mirror make an interesting mix.

This blue plaid chair may look like Dad’s favorite sitting spot but with the right wall treatments and accents, it can be right at home in your mishmash style bedroom.

10 Reasons to Get Psyched for the Holidays

10 Reasons to Get Psyched for the Holidays 2

wonderful

As the holiday season is fast approaching, we know the stress levels are also increasing at a rapid rate. The holidays can be a tad overwhelming with so many projects to do, decorations to put up, and gifts to wrap. But don’t forget the magic of the season where having fun and making memories is what it’s all about. So just to give you an excuse to take a breather and get some perspective, we’ve put together a list of some things to be excited about this holiday season.

1. Sweater Weather

Who doesn’t love a good sweater? They’re cozy, warm, and can be dressed up or down. Plus, this is the best time of the year to practice styling with layers–chunky knits, boot socks, scarves, and cute hats to boot!

2. Snow

Whether you choose to enjoy the snow falling peacefully outside as you cozy up to a warm fire or you’d rather don your snow suit and speed down the slopes in a sled, skis, or snowboard, the holiday season is the perfect time to embrace the cold. Snow days (and snowball fights!) are an extra bonus. 😉

3. Family

You might be lucky enough to live around your family but for some people, this may be the only time they get to enjoy their parents or siblings. You’ve only got one family so make the most out of this time you get to spend together.

4. Sparkles & Shine

With the glimmering icicles hanging from roofs, holiday lights dazzling the town, and all the shiny decor you catch a glimpse of as you peek through your window, the holiday season does not spare the sparkle. It’s also the perfect time of year to wear the sparkle. If you love shimming embroidery, sequins, and glitter, get festive and pile it on liberally for those holiday parties.

5. Time to Recharge

Even if you can’t get much time off during the holidays, most of us can take a day or two to rest and recuperate. This also is a great opportunity to reflect on the year that has passed. Take a moment to list your gratitudes, accomplishments, and milestones. When you look at it all at once, you may be surprised by all this year has given you and get excited for the year to come.

6. Giving

We all like getting presents but gift giving can also be a huge rush. Finding the perfect gifts for the ones you love most and anticipating their reaction is an adventure in itself. Also, it gives you a great excuse to go window shopping for yourself!

7. Movies

Two words: Oscar Season! Not only is this the time of year when the best movies are in theaters, but it’s also the time when it’s perfectly acceptable to watch your tried and true holiday favorites (over and over again if you want).

8. Music

Whether you’re a fan of classic crooners like Frank Sinatra, or you prefer the newer tunes of divas like Mariah Carey, there’s holiday music out there for every type. It’s really the only time of year that it’s acceptable to blast these tunes, so embrace the Falalalalala!

9. Parties Galore

This is the perfect opportunity to mix and mingle with people you wouldn’t necessarily be in the same room with during the rest of the year. Whether you’re looking for a new romantic interest or you want to network for that new job, you’ll feel like a star all dressed up in your glamorous holiday attire.

10. The New Year

The New Year means a fresh start, a new year of goals and opportunities. There are endless possibilities of what the New Year will bring.

Happy Holidays from Ebates!

Decor on a Budget

Decor on a Budget 2

Redecorating your place, sprucing up your home, or moving are such expensive endeavors. Giving your place a new look could mean a few new pieces of a complete overhaul. A wardrobe can be updated on a pretty small budget thanks to Cash Back and great sales. Furniture and decor requires a bit more thought and money. After over a year in our apartment it almost seems like we are done filling it with the right furniture, art, and storage. Luckily Ebates has a lot of budget-friendly stores. Great deals+Cash Back has become our home decor mantra. Here are our five favorite store for decor and furniture that won’t break the bank:

Amazon’s MYHABIT

MYHABIT

While MYHABIT might be know for discounts on designer clothes and accessories, their Home and Decor section is chock full of great deals. We snagged some very soft sheets. We found 800+ thread count for the price of 300+ thread count sheets. They are a great value and they ship for free! Their linen offerings are excellent, but they also regularly have sales on kitchen tools and accessories, art, lighting, and even furniture. Their selection is constantly changing, so you might have to do a little planning and research to take advantage.

Pier 1

Pier 1

The Pier 1 aesthetic is not for everyone, but they have a huge selection of items that can add a certain flair to your space. They also have really excellent seasonal items at budget-friendly prices. We <3 a great holiday look to our place, but never want to break to bank and our DIY skills aren’t really up to snuff. Pier 1 has added some festive flair to our place on several occasions.

JCPenney

JCPenney

JCPenney was a great surprise for us. While we have always enjoyed their clothing and accessory options, they seem to have really stepped up their home options. They have great collaborators – from Martha Stewart to Jonathan Adler. Their offerings are budget friendly and design conscious. They have sales VERY regularly, which is fantastic. Right now they are offering 20-50% off select items. Don’t forget – you can always have things shipped to the store to save on shipping costs.

CB2

CB2

CB2 may cater to a younger crowd, but their modern, sleek pieces can easily compliment most design styles. Sometimes a simple piece is the perfect compliment to a more designed space. We snagged a a couple of chrome side tables for our living room at a great price. Shipping was not free, however, it was very reasonable. We also were able to snag some great items for our (mostly decorative) bar. We snagged some chic flutes for under$2 each. They also have a great selection of unique art and wall decor. Their offerings look like investment pieces but won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Overstock.com

Overstock

We have blogged about our love of Overstock before, but we can’t resist including them on this list. The deals are INSANE. You can find the same things as Pottery Barn at a fraction of the price. We find ourselves looking at their offerings for fun. They have amazing designer inspired pieces at shocking discounts. Even better, their shipping, even on LARGE items is super reasonable. Maybe $6 or so. Their decor is not quite as interesting as the furniture options, but their electronics (hello, new vacuum) section also has impressive deals. Because the deals are so good we have found that a lot of the items sell out quickly, so don’t be scared to pull the trigger if you see something you love!

The Angie’s List Guide to Fall Cleaning

When the leaves and temperatures start falling, we at Angie’s List are making our homes cozy and comfortable for the months ahead. Make sure your fall is fantastic too by letting Angie’s List help you find the best professionals to give your home the seasonal care it needs.

Guide to Fall Cleaning

1. Clean those gutters. Those leaves sure are beautiful, but if you let them collect in your gutters, you risk serious water damage to your house when the gutters overflow. Give yourself with peace of mind by hiring a professional to do a complete cleaning.

2. Love your lawn. Besides spring, fall is the best time to show your lawn a little TLC. With weed control and reseeding, a fully fertilized and aerated lawn will reward you in warmer weather with lush landscaping.

3. Seal the leaks. Be green–and save yourself hundreds of dollars in utilities–by insulating your home and applying weather stripping along any air gaps. A professional home energy auditor will help you save even more money by finding areas of energy loss you may have missed.

4. Service your furnace. An annual inspection will make sure your heat is running efficiently and will warn you of any potential carbon monoxide leaks in the gas line before the furnace kicks into high gear for winter.

5. Check the chimney.  Dreaming of evenings around the fireplace? A good, professional chimney sweep will ensure that your fireplace is fire-worthy and free of any hazards or defects. Then, sign up for local firewood delivery so the fire never dies!

You can rest easy this fall when you hire the right professionals to do the job and save yourself the time and trouble. With Angie’s List, you can find local, quality service providers quickly and easily, along with exclusive, members-only service discounts from a wide range of professionals.

Join Angie’s List now, and for a limited time receive 30% off your membership with promo code Ebates30.  Act now, this special discount is only available until Sept 11th.
