How to Master Makeup Storage and Organization in 5 Easy Steps

Makeup neatly displayed on tableIs your makeup stash a constant center of total chaos? If you’re like most of us, your makeup collection is subject to that daily disorder created while desperately trying to dig out your favorite eyeliner. If you’re a hair product hoarder or if you get a monthly sample subscription, you probably have a drawer filled with products you love, but can’t keep arranged. If you’re tired of never being able to find what you want, when you need it most, you are probably in need of a major makeup sort and a new system to keep things tidy. Without a solid organizational system, things can devolve into disorder that will most likely leave you super frazzled any time you are in a hurry. With these five easy steps, you can learn how to sort out your products, organize your makeup with a system that sticks and reclaim your sanity in style. Whatever organizational system you choose, make sure you don’t miss out on Cash Back at Ebates on your new beauty storage makeup organizer and as always, keep your eyes peeled for extra perks like a makeup storage promo code.

Everyday Essentials

Eyelash curler and lashes on colorblock background

The first step may seem a little daunting because things are going to become more of a mess before you can achieve organized makeup storage perfection. Dig through your makeup vanity, bathroom storage and makeup bag to retrieve all of your beauty products. Spread them out on a table and pull out the stuff that you use most frequently. These are the items that you want to have on hand for those crazy mornings that would otherwise leave you cursing your disorderly makeup collection. Tuck them into a designated makeup bag or makeup organizer reserved for only those items.

Multicolored makeup bagGet something cute and portable that can go anywhere you go in a flash, like this adorable makeup bag from Vera Bradley. Once you have your essentials reserved in a dedicated pouch or bin, you’re ready to move on.

stash

Close-up shot of eyeshadow

We all have those favorite beauty products that just aren’t in our everyday rotation. Whether it’s a lip color you only wear in the winter or hair sunscreen for the sunny months, save yourself the bathroom storage overflow and tuck these seldom used products away until their proper time and place. Make yourself a backup makeup box of storage for hair products that you use no more than once a month or quarterly and tuck it away somewhere cool and dry. This is also a great time to sort out and toss all of those crusty, expired items that have been lurking in your makeup collection for ages – you know which ones we’re talking about! They may be hard to let go, but your skin and eyes will thank you!

categoryIt may be helpful if you organize beauty products into categories such as eye shadows, lip products, foundations, concealers and so on. Depending on the size of your makeup collection, you may want to make broader categories such as eye makeup or more narrow selections like eyeliners, if you happen to have a ton. Once you have your beauty storage categories established, it’s time to move on to the fun part.

organizer

Makeup brushes in a clear container

Now that you have sorted your makeup into a number of categories, find a makeup box or makeup organizer with enough spaces so that each category can have its own space. Use bins, bags or drawers, whichever you fancy the most. There are a lot of beauty organizer options out there, so decide what works best for your personal habits and space. Your makeup storage will work best if everything has an intuitive designated spot that items can return to after they’ve been used.

tidyOnce everything has its designated spot, keeping your makeup organizer system tidy is a piece of cake if you can commit five minutes each week to putting items back where they belong. Head to your makeup vanity or bathroom storage and take a few minutes to tuck away all the products that have strayed from their respective receptacles each week. Sunday is a great day to do this as the weekend outings are over and it will give you a fresh, organized start for Monday. Tuck those brushes back in a makeup brush holder and set your next week up for neatly ordered bliss!

How to Decorate an Apartment on a Budget

Blue Pillows on Striped CouchWhether it’s a cozy studio, large loft or itty-bitty apartment, we all want to infuse our space with some personal style. Adding a little attitude to your ambiance doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag thanks to these simple apartment decorating tips on a budget from your friends at Ebates. Here’s how to decorate an apartment easily and affordably.

Vintage 70s MirrorMirror, Mirror On The Wall – Particularly useful if you’re in tight quarters, a wall mirror can create the illusion of space while adding interest to plain walls. Your local thrift store is the perfect place to start. Refinish an old frame with paint or glue on accents like shells, tiles or rope to achieve your perfect look. Mix and match tall rectangular mirrors with ovals and other shapes to bring any room to life.

Bye, Bye Bare Walls – You don’t have to be an artist to add a little flair to your lair. Grab a pack of affordable canvases from a local craft store like Michaels and dress them up while saving with Cash Back at Ebates. Find interesting fabric swatches that speak to your style from places like Joann.com and wrap the canvas for instant art. Simply glue the fabric to the back of the wooden frame and you’ve got statement pieces perfect for living room decorating ideas. Use fabrics with funky texture for some fun, go monochromatic or perk up your place with pretty prints. No Picasso painting skills required.

Make a Splash With Shower Curtains – Not finding the curtains you want to cover windows or boring blinds? Shower curtains come in a variety of daring designs and materials and make a fun alternative to expensive window treatments. Plus, you can use them as affordable room dividers to create separation in style. Remember our canvas tip from above? Create a huge statement piece by wrapping an oversized canvas with a shower curtain. They’re super versatile and easy to clean!

String LightsLighten Up – String lights can easily and affordably brighten up any space. Hang strands sparingly from wall to wall for a simple ceiling accent or cluster them together and hang them from the ceiling for a whimsical look. Perfect for adding interest to a wall, above a headboard or draping on a shelf or mantel.

Perk Up With Paper Lanterns – If you’re on the hunt for affordable apartment decorating tips, paper lanterns are the perfect answer! With lanterns in an array of sizes and colors, they’re ideal for everything from living room decorating ideas to adding adorable accents to a kitchen nook or office space. Cluster an array of your favorite shades or hang monochromatic paper lanterns from your ceiling for some elegant ambiance. Perfect for kids’ rooms too! Little ones love choosing their favorite colors for some fun flair.

Oldies But Goodies – You can find tons of hidden treasures at local used book and music stores. Peruse old record bins for eye-catching album artwork featuring unique designs, artists and colors. Frame the album sleeves or adhere them directly to walls for some fun and funky wall décor. Grab a bunch and arrange them in a symmetrical layout for a bold way to liven up plain walls. Old books can add a vintage accent to shelves and tables. Visually appealing covers and various sizes will combine to create interesting decorations with a classic twist.

Colorful DishesServe Up Style With Plates – Decorating on a tight budget means getting creative! Plates don’t just belong in the kitchen cupboard. Create a wall collage by mixing and matching colorful plates in different sizes and adhering them to an accent wall. Use adhesive or attach wires and hang plates in an interesting configuration for a simple yet fun way to refresh a wall. Use plates with different prints and textures or stick with one style for a bold piece of DIY wall art.

Make Any Room Bloom – Simple accents can add up to chic style. Use clear containers or extra mason jars from your kitchen cupboards as small vases, which are perfect for your favorite petite petals. Line a window, shelf or create an easy DIY centerpiece when you cluster jars together. Bonus: faux flowers add an affordable, lasting touch. Get extra decorating leverage by using glass jars for easy candleholders, too. Just drop in a tea light and add a glow to your space.

Cut a Rug – Got funky floors you can’t permanently update? No worries. Fabric remnants are an easy way to add a rug without blowing your budget. Clean up the edges and cut the fabric to whatever size fits your space. Glue on an anti-slip rubber backing (that old yoga mat you have hanging around will work wonders!) and voila — an affordable DIY rug perfect for your bathroom, kitchen or living room floor.

Whether you’re searching for living room decorating ideas, want to beautify your bedroom or kick up your kitchen, these easy and affordable ideas will transform your space in no time. What are some of your favorite apartment decorating ideas?

The Ultimate Guide to Decluttering Your Closet

It’s never too early to indulge in spring-cleaning fever! But if you’re intimidated by that hot mess of dresses, shoes, bags and bulky outerwear you’ve got in your closet, just relax. Like any massive project, decluttering your closet works best when you have a plan before diving in. Here are seven tried-and-true tricks to help you get your closet reorganized and fashionably efficient, plus a few essentials you can get with Cash Back at Ebates to get to the job done right.

Overhead of essentials vintage woman.

1. Host a Clothing Swap

One girl’s “leave it” is another girl’s “love it.” Kill two birds with one stone and invite your besties over to take some gently worn items off your hands while you help yourself to some of theirs. It’s a fun (and cheap!) way to kick-start your spring wardrobe.

shoes2. Take It One Section at a Time

Rather than pull everything out of your closet and find yourself instantly overwhelmed, work on one area at a time. That way, you can even spread the project over multiple days. Maybe start with shoes first, then the top shelf, then the bottom drawer and so on. Baby steps, ladies.

3. Apply the One-Year Rule

If you haven’t worn a piece in a full 365, consider getting rid of it. If you never got the itch to mix it into your outfits that whole time, chances are you never will. Say buh-bye. Also try hanging all your clothes in one direction. As you wear things, put them back hanging the opposite direction. In another year, you will easily see what you haven’t worn so you can get rid of those items too.

4. Put Things Away in Groups

After the big purge, restock your closet by grouping things into categories. All sweaters go in this drawer, all dresses hang in this section, etc. Another option is to group by color. Consider your thought process in putting outfits together and do what makes sense for you.

belt_tie_rack5. Get a Belt Rack

Even if you don’t have a lot of belts, these screw-in belt racks are great for hanging bags and scarves that would otherwise likely take up floor space.

6. Store With Space Bags

If there are some items that need to be taken out of your seasonal rotation but you are running out of room, get some large space bags to vacuum pack these pieces. It’ll keep them safe from moisture and dust, and, most importantly, it will shrink them down to size.

Sidewalk chalks7. Basement Storage With a Bag of Chalk

If you’re storing clothes in a chest or basement, put a few pieces of chalk (it doesn’t have to be colored) in a cloth bag to add to your clothes. This will soak up excess moisture in the air and keep your clothes fresh and dry.

10 Tips for A+ Back-to-School Organization

organized

The lazy days of summer are coming to a close, and it can be a challenge for kids and parents alike. It’s easy to get lost in the chaos of pencils, backpacks, schedules, papers and lunches. But before getting overwhelmed at this thought, take the time to implement some organizational systems. You’ll be a master of the back-to-school frenzy in no time if you follow these 10 tips for keeping your kids organized.

Keep a school calendar to remember due dates and other important events. This can be a traditional wall calendar or you can have fun with a white-board calendar that can be decorated. Mark field trips, project due dates and school events so both you and your child will know what the upcoming days have to offer.

Encourage your child to check off the calendar daily. Marking something as done can be very rewarding and give your child a sense of both responsibility and accomplishment. It also makes it easy to keep track of what has been done and what needs to get done. It sounds simple enough, but these are skills children need to learn for lifelong organization and accountability.

iStock_000046921048_Medium

Have a designated homework spot at home. Whether that spot is at the kitchen table or a desk in the bedroom, keep this spot uncluttered for distraction-free homework time. Have all the essentials (paper, pencil sharpener, erasers and a calculator) within reach. This will help keep those trips to another room for a pen down to a minimum, which will help keep your kids on track.

Store away projects, artwork and A+ papers for safe keeping. Have an organization system in place to store these pieces of work for the future. Decide what is worth keeping and what is OK to be recycled. A simple filing storage box or a fun rolling storage cart will keep desks clean, clear and clutter-free.

Get a backpack with lots of compartments. Having a special spot for everything will keep kids organized, as well as help them remember where everything goes. This backpack has a great multi-compartment design with a media pocket, beverage pocket and padded shoulder straps. Not only is this backpack affordable, but it also comes in lots of different colors!

Carry only the necessities. Backpacks can get heavy very quickly, and this is not good for children. Make sure only the necessary items are in daily transit to and from school. Also make sure the backpack straps are properly adjusted for safety and comfort.

Pack the backpack before bed. Nothing throws off a whole day more than scrambling to get everything together and catching the bus on time. Making sure homework is safely squared away and in the backpack before bedtime can help the morning be smooth sailing.

Invest in a good pencil case. Pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers and paperclips can become a mess and get lost in a backpack. Having a good pencil case to neatly store away these items ensures nothing gets misplaced.

Color categorize notebooks and folders. Separate folders and binders for different classes or days to avoid confusion. Have separate folders for homework to be done, work in progress and papers that are done and ready to be turned in. This system helps things transition smoothly, and makes it easy for you to keep track of as well.

Use dividers in notebooks for additional organization. Dividers can transform a notebook that was once a disaster into an organized masterpiece. These plastic dividers are more durable than the average paper ones, and they feature a pocket for holding additional papers.
